OK Go: Apple Stole Our Video Concepts

On a day when Tim Cook & Co. were revealing their latest Apple versions of competitors' previous releases, it seems even their promo videos borrowed inspiration.

According to Bloomberg's Businessweek, OK Go is taking issue with the company's "Perspective" intro for Tuesday's event, claiming the clip about “those who have always seen things differently" is a ripoff of their latest music video for "The Writing's on the Wall."

Both the Apple and OK Go clips feature very similar visual effects, including a long shot of a white room and shapes becoming words.

Sure, Apple's model as of late has been to take what others have first introduced and try to improve on it (bigger screens and "phablets" like Samsung; mobile payments like Google Wallet). But at least with the iPhone 6 and Apple Pay, most consumers recognized the source of inspiration.

In the instance of "Perspective," OK Go's manager Andy Gershon told Businessweek says the band actually met with Apple five months ago to discuss what would later become the "Writing's" clip. When Apple wasn't interested in collaborating, the band worked with Brooklyn production company 1stAveMachine to create their video. Months later, Apple hired the same company and director for their own video.

Gershon said: “The videos speak for themselves, and you can draw your own conclusions."
