Ryan Egan is back with new music this week.

The New York artist, based now in Paris, has shared an experimental new track called "Speaking For Myself," which sees the longtime Variance favorite tapping into a different space, as the song was initially released through the French music app Radiooooo and Purple Magazine for their 2070 project, which recruited artists such as Polo & Pan, Nicolas Godin of Air, Molly Lewis and Nina Kraviz to envision music from the year 2070. 

"I've rarely been as inspired by a songwriting task as I was when the Radiooooo team asked me to make an original track based on my vision of music in the year 2070," explains Egan. "After days of obsessive pondering, I landed on this particularly dystopian tale and set out to create the sonic landscape it would exist within. It's very much inspired by classics like 1984 as well as the phenomenal music left behind by David Bowie and Leonard Cohen at the very end of their lives."

The song plays like poetry—perhaps poetry from the future?
