We're not sure if it was Beyoncé waiting for the summer solstice or if the summer solstice was indeed waiting on Beyoncé, but no need to fret, because Queen Bey's new song "Break My Soul" has arrived.

Initially timed to arrive Monday night at midnight EST, the new song, which Beyoncé announced Monday morning ahead of its release, arrived just before midnight but it does in fact come at the official start of summer. It's an intentional decision to share new music at the start of the new season, which is launching a new era of her own, ahead of a brand new album Renaissance, which is coming July 29.

The song samples the Robin S. house classic “Show Me Love” as well as Big Freedia’s “Explode." The track was produced by Beyoncé, The-Dream, Tricky Stewart, BlaqNmilD and Jay-Z. Big Freedia, Allen George and Fred McFarlane are credited as co-writers. 

The upcoming album will be Beyoncé's first solo album since her 2016 release Lemonade. As we previously mentioned last fall, Beyoncé teased the likelihood of new solo music around the time when she released "Be Alive" from the King Richard soundtrack. She also released "Black Parade" on Juneteenth in 2020, and a year prior, she was part of the cast of The Lion King remake, for which she also produced an album inspired by the film.
