From Norwich (U.K.), four-piece indie group, The Islas, have dropped their new single “The Absence Of You,'' off their upcoming Oblivion EP. Their electrifying indie bops are the ultimate energizing, head-bangers touching on all things love and life. The youthful group are winding their way up the music ladder, making their stamp by playing at notable venues across the UK and performing alongside the likes of Fickle Friends and Cassia.
“The Absence Of You'' was inspired by a break-up from a seven-year relationship, touching on lack of confidence, being torn up by past choices and coming to terms with the grief process of heartbreak. As well as writing around those themes, the power of the present flooded his inspiration, Baverstock shares, “I wrote the verse from lying in my bed, “Norfolk breeze comes through my window, I hold myself between the sheets in the morning glow”.
The sweet sounds of indie guitars dancing in a pallet of high frequencies layered over tropical, summertime drums give you the zesty taste of getting festival hot and sweaty. The chorus takes us on a detour from the light, romantic indie melodies into The Smiths meets early Two Door Cinema Club vibes, with the exhilarating catalog of tight drums and lyrical guitar riffs. There is a timeless feel about The Islas. Every drop of dewy, youthful, indie-angst feels familiar; it’s a wash of summer nostalgia. Nathan Baverstock (lead vocals, rhythm guitar), has a knack for creating the perfect balance of deep love themes glazed in an aura of pure fun. His crystal-clear vocals are quite simply the ultimate vocal tone to complement those kaleidoscopic soundscapes of bass, drums and guitar.
If “The Absence Of You'' is anything to go by, then we’re in for a treat with their upcoming EP Oblivion. Perfect for those summertime playlists, it’ll transport you to a warm paradise and wash away your worries. Go check them out now!
