Pharrell has released a new song called "Letter to My Godfather," from the newly released Netflix documentary The Black Godfather, which is out today on Netflix and in select theaters.

The film documents the rise of Clarence Avant, a music executive who impacted the legacies of such icons as Bill Withers, Quincy Jones, Muhammad Ali and even Barack Obama. Nicole Avant, Clarence's daughter and the producer of the film, showed Pharell the footage, which inspired him to begin writing "Letter to My Godfather" that same evening.

"Clarence Avant connects us all through his incredible impact since before I was born up until now," says Pharrell. "He’s the godfather to so many of us—and not just African Americans, most of the industry."
