As he prepares to release a new album next month, Scottish-born singer Greg Holden is giving fans a preview in the form of his new song "I'm Not Your Enemy."

The stirring new track is out on Friday (March 1), but the U.S.-based crooner is premiering the track today on Variance. A collaboration with L.A. singer-songwriter Garrison Starr, "I'm Not Your Enemy" comes at a time of change for Holden, who was unexpectedly dropped from his label Warner Bros. in 2016.

But the song—and upcoming album World War Me—also come at a time of change and divisiveness in America and the World, something which has served as an inspiration for Holden's new music.

"I realize now that the album was conceived the day after Donald Trump was elected President," admits Holden, recalling being with Starr on tour and learning the news during a "crap breakfast in a cheap hotel" in Eastern Germany.  "We were both crushed. Myself as an immigrant, and Garrison as a gay woman ... I felt Garrison’s pain so much more though, as she felt like her own country had just abandoned her."

He adds: "We sat in a cold green room that night, wiping away the tears, and hummed out the melody of what would become 'I’m Not Your Enemy.' We finished it hungover the next afternoon and played it to an arena of 10,000 people that evening.

Holden says "I'm Not Your Enemy" was written "in a desperate attempt to bring different sides together in one of the most divisive times I’ve ever known."

The full album will be out on March 29 and is available now to pre-order or pre-save. "I'm Not Your Enemy" can be heard below.
