Just hours after his video interview with Charlamane tha God was published, Kanye West went on TMZ Live and caused a stir, wildly suggesting he believes slavery was a "choice."

Following a chat about his support of Donald Trump and contrasting hip-hop's past fondness of the reality TV star's wealth and status with the rejection following Trump's deliberately divisive and insulting presidential campaign (and subsequent presidency), West then lamented the idea of imprisonment and slavery.

“When you hear about slavery for 400 years. For 400 years? That sounds like a choice,” said Ye. “Like, you was there for 400 years and it was all of y’all?”

Those words were quickly met with rebuke from a TMZ employee named Van, who responded sharply.

"Kanye, you're entitled to your thought and you're entitled to believe whatever you want. But there is fact and real world consequence behind everything that you just said. And while you are making music and being an artist and living the live that you've earned by being a genius, the rest of us in society have to deal with these threats to our lives."

The man continued, addressing Ye from across the large room. "We have to deal with the marginalization that has come from the 400 years of slavery that you said, for our people, was a choice," he said. "Frankly, I'm disappointed, I'm appalled, and, brother, I am unbelievably hurt by the fact that you have morphed into something, to me, that's not real."

It appears West was at least somewhat impacted by that response, then walking over to the man and saying, "Bro, I'm sorry I hurt you."
