After weeks of teasing anxious fans with a video stream on his website, Frank Ocean has released a new film titled Endless.
The 46-minute effort arrived late Thursday night (Aug. 18), consisting of 18 tracks and footage similar to that on the aforementioned video stream. It is available exclusively through Apple Music, which has also confirmed this is indeed a "film" project, separate from the singer's long-awaited new record.
According to Apple, the full-length album—previously called Boys Don't Cry—is expected to arrive sometime this weekend, although reportedly with an updated title.
While Ocean's website stream had gone silent in recent days, he returned to the frame late Thursday evening and finished constructing a wooden staircase, as he had been rumored to be doing.
Many fans had become weary after expecting an album to be released last summer—and then again last month. When reports of an Aug. 5 release date surfaced, excitement once again intensified but quickly turned into frustration for some when no such album materialized.
As we reported last week, so many discouraged and excited fans bought and streamed Channel Orange in the first week of August that the 2012 LP surged back onto the U.S. album charts after a three-year absence.
Endless and the forthcoming album are the singer's first projects in over four years, following his critically acclaimed and Grammy-winning Channel Orange. The film includes a new version of Ocean's cover of The Isley Brothers hit "At Your Best (You Are Love)," which Aaliyah also covered in 1994.
The film features contributions from the likes of James Blake, Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood, Sampha, Arca and others. The album is said to also include a number of guest appearances.
Update: As of Aug. 20, Frank Ocean's new album Blonde is out now.
