Ahead of her debut Not That Girl EP, rising pop Casey Baer is giving an early listen of her new single "Take It Personal."
The electric new pop anthem is premiering today on Variance, showcasing a blistering kiss-off of a hook, easily finding a lane alongside hits from the likes of Olivia Rodrigo and Tate McRae.
“This is a f-you song to someone who really hurt me. It’s a song that says, ‘You don’t deserve me,’” says Baer, who sings: "Break your heart/Lose your mind/You’re dead to me don’t you dare try."
The song is from Baer's new Not That Girl EP, which arrives this Friday. It comes as the Los Angeles-based singer is about to join Jesse McCartney on tour.
Hear the new song below, followed by our Q+A with Baer.
How does it feel to be putting out your debut EP?
It feels incredible to be putting out my debut EP. I’ve been working on this project with Sophie Simmons—who is the executive producer of my EP—for over a year. It’s great to be able to finally share a full body of work that shows who I am as an artist.
What’s the inspiration for “Take It Personal”?
“Take It Personal" was inspired by a relationship that ended in a way that really surprised me. He didn’t have the respect to be honest and acted like we were strangers in the end. So this is a song to let him know how I feel! I hope he takes it personal! For anyone feeling this way after a break up, I hope it empowers you to move on!
What are you looking forward to most about being on tour?
I’m so excited to meet everyone while on tour. I have been dreaming of this day forever! I can’t wait to share my music in person and connect with as many people as possible!
If you could collaborate with anyone right now, who would it be and why?
You will never get a different response to this question—Justin Bieber! When Justin released his Purpose album, I was going through a really hard time, battling anxiety, and when I saw Justin being so honest about his struggles, I realized it was OK to express how I was feeling. I hid my anxiety for so long and his music inspired me to be myself and not worry about what others thought of me.
What comes next after the tour?
Hopefully another tour and definitely more new music! Thank you so much for this opportunity!
