Icelandic artist Jófríður Ákadóttir (aka JFDR) is preparing to release her new album New Dreams this week. But before she does that, she has released a brand new song called "Think Too Fast" and an accompanying video, which is premiering today on Variance.

The song itself is simply stunning, although its inspiration is one of heartache, depicting a snapshot of a time when she was experiencing the end of a relationship. The visuals capture that moment, thanks to JFDR's friend and collaborator, French filmmaker Timothée Lambrecq, who directed the corresponding video, which was shot in Japan.

"I was struck with this thought, that I’d spent a colossal amount of time trying to break down a relationship into tiny pieces," says JFDR of the song. "He was sort of there, not really there though. I asked myself the question: what piece am I missing, what am I not seeing here, until I realised I should maybe be asking myself: what (or who) do I miss. What is it really that a long to be with?"

As for the video, she says: "The idea of shooting a music video in Japan came from my friend Timothée; he had just relocated to Japan and was sort of studying the people, adjusting to the space. It was equally ideal and unideal that during the short window we had to film I struggled to get myself motivated, so it became a pretty honest portrait of someone wandering alone in a strange foreign place (referencing the great film Lost In Translation). While the real stars of the video are the everyday people, struggling or not, maybe suddenly they become existential and start asking themselves what they're missing in this twister that is life.”

JFDR's album New Dreams arrives this Friday (March 13). And the video for "Think Too Fast" can be seen below.
