It's that time again. As the weather heats up—and so does the music, some songs will stand out above others. From heavy hitters to pop shop singers to indie stars to fresh-faced up-and-comers, you never know who will rise to the top.

Last year, Gotye and Kimbra's "Somebody That I Used to Know" and Carly Rae Jepsen's "Call Me Maybe" topped the charts, dominated iTunes and broke records as each track appeared nearly everywhere for months. This time a year ago, both tracks were clearly leading the pack. In 2013, however, the jury is still out. But perhaps that's a good thing!
