Following reports last month that an anonymous donor had fronted the money for Detroit's famed Masonic Temple to pay its outstanding tax bill, it has now been revealed that Jack White is the man who paid the $142,000 in taxes, allowing the historic venue to avoid foreclosure.

According to a press release, Masonic Temple officials revealed that White was inspired to come to their aid because he had played numerous shows there and because his mother was employed at the Masonic Temple as an usher while he was growing up.

“Jack’s donation could not have come at a better time and we are eternally grateful to him for it,” said Detroit Masonic Temple Association President Roger Sobran in the news release. He goes on to say that they have renamed the Cathedral Theater to "the ‘Jack White Theater.’"
