Fox Orders '24' Spinoff Starring 'Straight Outta Compton's' Corey Hawkins

Fox is getting a head start on the 2016-17 season, ordering 24 spinoff 24: Legacy to series after much buzz about the pilot.

As we previously reported, Straight Outta Compton star Corey Hawkins will star in the 12-episode thriller, which Kiefer Sutherland will executive produce, with no plans for him to reprise his role of Jack Bauer from the original series.

Hawkins plays Eric Carter, a play military hero who returns to the U.S. only to find trouble has followed him home, prompting him to seek help from CTU in hopes of preventing a massive terror attack.

In addition to Legacy, Fox has also picked up Star, from Empire creator Lee Daniels, will follows three young singers trying to make it in the music industry. Newcomers Jude Demorest, Ryan Destiny and Brittany O’Grady lead the cast with Queen Latifah and Benjamin Bratt.

Fox, along with the other major networks, typically wait until mid-May at the fall upfront presentations to announce series pickups.
