Best Coast singer Bethany Cosentino is taking issue with Chris Brown's latest hit "Back to Sleep," suggesting the song "perpetuates rape culture."
Pointing to the song's lyrics, "just let me rock, fuck you back to sleep girl, don't say a word no, girl don't you talk," Cosentino questioned in a series of tweets on Sunday how Brown or even his label could approve such a track.
"You already know how I feel about Chris Brown," she said, before taking aim at Brown's team: "This isn't just about that idiot tho- the fact that's a song in popular culture that some A&R person was like 'this is great' saddens me."
Cosentino also called out Billboard for its lavish review of the song, which declares it "excels as a quality addition to [Brown's] catalog’s stellar collection of panty-dropping and baby-making songs."
"How about this for a review," Cosentino said. "Singing about fucking a girl back to sleep/telling her dont say a word is singing about rape + it's disgusting."
"Back to Sleep" is currently No. 44 on Billboard's Hot 100 chart. Produced by Allen Ritter, Vinylz and Boi-1da, it's also received an A-list remix from Usher and Zayn Malik.
