Kanye West said in a new interview with Los Angeles' Power 105.1 that his upcoming album is "80% done" and will likely have a surprise release date.
"Release dates is played out," he said. "So the surprise is going to be a surprise. There go the surprise.” He also said the record would consist of "bars, songs, cookout music that just feels good. My last album was protest music. I was like, ’I’ma take my ball and go home.’"
The rapper discussed a number of things in the interview, including the fact that he and Drake have discussed recording a collaborative album together; his dad's advice to "stay out of" recent debates about the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner; and more.
West also admitted he heard Beck's Morning Phase for the first time while out to dinner recently with Taylor Swift. He said he "felt good for him," be he went on to suggest his antics at the Grammys actually played in Beck's favor: "The person that won the most was Beck. If I hadn’t done that, his Album Of The Year would’ve never been mentioned. Now, it’s in all the chatter!”
