Sam Smith Forced to Cancel Tour Dates Due to Vocal Cord Surgery

After being diagnosed with a vocal cord hemorrhage last month, Sam Smith is canceling a number of upcoming tour dates so that he can undergo surgery.

The surgery is set for next week, Smith revealed Thursday on his social media accounts. But he'll be unable to speak for three weeks after the operation.

According to the singer, doctors expect him to be fully recovered in six to eight weeks, with his next live appearance expected to be on July 5 at Mainsquare Festival in France.

Smith previously revealed a string of new North American tour dates for this summer. As of now, those are still on the calendar.
