Janet Jackson Says New Album, Tour Coming

Janet Jackson marked her 49th birthday (May 16) by officially teasing some news just after midnight eastern time: she's releasing a new album and will tour in support of it.

"I promised you'd hear it from my lips and now you will," Jackson assured fans in a clip of audio. "This year—new music, new world tour, a new movement. I've been listening. Let's keep the conversation going."

While she didn't offer any other details about the new material, her tweet containing the link to her announcement video included the text "My Conversation" along with the hashtag #ConversationsInACafe, which she and some in her circle have recently been using on social media.

Based on the contents of some of the tweets, it's possible the words "a new movement" from her announcement are the most important, as the topics of discussion (or conversation) include poverty in third world countries, victims of natural disasters, casualties of war overseas and sex trafficking.

A new album has been rumored for months, with speculation spiking this week when various reports surfaced claiming Jackson could be releasing a full-length as soon as July 10.

Her most recent album, Discipline, arrived in February 2008.
