Legendary Canadian singer Leonard Cohen has died at the age of 82, his label confirmed Thursday night.

"It is with profound sorrow we report that legendary poet, songwriter and artist, Leonard Cohen has passed away," Columbia Records and Sony Music Canada said in a statement tonight. "We have lost one of music's most revered and prolific visionaries. A memorial will take place in Los Angeles at a later date. The family requests privacy during their time of grief."

Cohen performed hundreds of live shows during the last decade of his career, largely to make up for having millions of dollars stolen by his longtime manager. Nonetheless, he traveled the globe through 2013.

The singer released his 14th and final studio album, You Want It Darker, just three weeks ago.

A cause of death was not immediately provided.
