Kanye West cut his performance short Sunday night at the Meadows Music & Arts Festival, citing a "family emergency."

The rapper was headlining the final night of the inaugural New York fest when he was pulled to the side of the stage while performing "Heartless." When he returned to the mic, he said there was a "family emergency ... have to stop the show."

After West's abrupt departure, a festival representative told attendees there would be a brief intermission, but they quickly retracted the information, issuing only the following statement: "Due to an emergency, Kanye West had to end his performance early. Please get home safely."

While it's unclear the details of West's emergency, it's worth noting he showed up 30 minutes late tonight and did not address the crowd much until later in his set.

Update: According to CNN, Kanye West's wife Kim Kardashian-West was held at gunpoint tonight by armed, masked men posing as police officers inside her Paris hotel room. She is in France with her mother, Kris Jenner, and sister, Kendall Jenner, for Paris Fashion Week. Kardashian-West's rep has subsequently confirmed the incident with Variance, noting she is "badly shaken but physically unharmed."
