Halfway through its sophomore run, USA Network's Mr. Robot has been renewed for a third season.

The network revealed the news Tuesday, following last week's polarizing episode, which opened with a 17-minute parody of '80s family sitcoms, complete with Full House-esque music, laugh tracks and a cameo by Alf.

“We couldn’t be more proud of Mr. Robot, a series that has pushed boundaries, captured the cultural zeitgeist and been honored as one of the best dramas on television,” NBCUniversal Cable's entertainment president Chris McCumber said today in a statement. “Midway through its second season, Mr. Robot continues to break new ground and open up new opportunities for the network. We can’t wait to see where [series creator] Sam Esmail and the entire brilliant Robot team take us next.”

While the first season of Mr. Robot drew praise (it was Variance's Best TV Show of 2015), the second season has earned a hefty amount of criticism and its ratings are down as much as 40% compared to last year.
