Eminem's 'MMLP2' Goes Platinum in Second Week; Lady Gaga's 'ARTPOP' Sluggishly Debuts at No. 1

As expected, a new album took the No. 1 throne this week following Eminem's lead last week with The Marshall Mathers LP 2. But it's all good news for the rapper, whose latest album is now platinum.

Surpassing the 1 million mark in copies sold in just its second week, MMLP2 dropped only 73% from its debut last week of 792,000 units. With a healthy 210,000 copies, that puts Em's latest effort at 1,002,000.

Meanwhile, Lady Gaga's ARTPOP debuts this week at No. 1 with 258,000 copies. It's enough to top the Billboard 200, but her last record, 2011's Born This Way, debuted at No. 1 with 1.1 million copies sold in its first week, aided greatly by a 99 cent promotion on Amazon MP3.

Many industry insiders have lamented that Gaga's latest LP isn't meeting expectations, despite the chart-topping debut. It's also worth pointing out that both Miley Cyrus' Bangerz and Katy Perry's PRISM both sold more than ARTPOP in their first weeks, 270,000 and 286,000, respectively.
