Jimmy Kimmel says he won't air a new episode of his late night show on May 20, the night of David letterman's Late Show farewell.

"I have too much respect for Dave to do anything that would distract viewers from watching his final show," Kimmel told The New York Times. "Plus, I'll probably be crying all day, which makes it hard to work."

Both Jimmy Kimmel Live and Late Show air weeknights at 11:35 p.m. EST.

Kimmel's show will air new episodes every other night that week, while NBC's Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is set to run new episodes all week long.
