It's Friday and Variance favorite ELEL is back with new music. In fact, their new single will perfectly soundtrack your weekend activities.

"Tequila," which is titled rather straightforwardly, is out today, premiering on Variance. And it follows their previous release "Early in the Morning," which marks a return for the band, which has gone through an evolution over the past couple of years.

"It works on a party-level really well," says frontman Ben Elkins of the new song. "But I wrote it in a very difficult time. Life was falling apart all around me and some days it felt like success if I could just hold it together, get to the night, and have a tequila."

Early last year, Elkins and his wife (whose first name partly inspired the name ELEL) divorced. The band soon after split in half and they spent most of last year keeping quiet. But Elkins and founding members Tim Cook and Zach Tichenor are charging forward now.

"When everything falls apart, you stop being careful with your art," says Elkins about this next phase. "You get messy and go out of bounds. I wanted to see what we could make if we took away the rules. It became really exciting, I had to keep going."

Hear "Tequila" below and definitely stay tuned for more from ELEL in the coming months.
