With just a week until the arrival of her sophomore album Melodrama, Lorde has released standout track "Sober."

She had previously debuted the song live during an intimate, pre-Coachella show. And the studio version makes clear this would have been a welcome entry for her Saturday Night Live performance, perhaps instead of "Liability."

Nonetheless, it's an addictive offering and it's perfect for inclusion in your weekend playlist before the full album arrives on June 16.

Lorde has also taken to Twitter to explain some of the backstory to the creation of "Sober," explaining how she and producer Jack Antonoff stitched the song together. She said part of the work took place on a "sinfully hot day in Palm Springs."

She also noted that when the hook finally came together, it "tasted as fresh [and] new in my mouth as ice water."

Hear "Sober" below.
