Henry “Big Bank Hank” Jackson of the pioneering hip-hop trio The Sugarhill Gang has passed away.

TMZ reported Tuesday that Jackson, who had been battling cancer, lost his fight early Tuesday morning.

The surviving members, Michael "Wonder Mike" Wright and Guy "Master Gee" O'Brien, responded to Jackson's death: “So sad to hear of our brother’s passing. Rest in peace Big Bank.”

The Sugarhill Gang are best known for their 1979 hit "Rapper's Delight."
