Apple kicked off its Worldwide Developers Conference on Monday with a handful of updates, including its new operating system, OSX El Capitan, as well as iOS 9.

An announcement about Apple's music streaming service is forthcoming.

Apple says that iOS 9 will extend the battery life of the iPhone 6 by about an hour because of decreased usage of resources.

Multitasking has also been brought to iOS 9, allowing users to open a second app without leaving the current one. Picture in Picture is also a major feature, scaling down a video to fit on the screen while you continue checking email or using other apps.

News is a new app which will offer users personalized stories and updates from a wide variety of outlets and publishers. Essentially, it's a lot like Flipboard.

"Music is such an important part of our lives," Apple CEO Tim Cook said as he unveiled its music streaming service Apple Music.

Jimmy Iovine pointed out that music fans currently have to sift through services like Spotify, VEVO, Youtube, etc., depending on the type of content they're wanting. Apple is apparently aiming to remedy that.

The service will include a 24/7 global radio station, as had been expected due to the hiring of Zane Lowe from BBC Radio 1 in the U.K. Lowe will spearhead the radio network, called Beats1.

Apple Music will cost the universal subscription fee of $9.99 per month, following a three-month free trial. It officially launches June 30 on Apple devices and Mac and PC desktops, with an Android release coming this fall.
