Los Angeles based “sensitive pop” artist Lulu Simon has just unveiled her iridescent new single “Being Alone is the Best.” A dreamy, silky and delicate new single, reminiscent of Carly Rae Jepsen meets Kim Petras, Lulu sings about the dark side of the city of angels, and how finding true friendship and someone to be your number one cheerleader can be harder than you think in a place full of filters and facades.
The artist shares, “I wrote “Being Alone is the Best” in the midst of a gigantic friend break up, where all of a sudden the people who were meant to uplift me and bring me the most joy were making me feel like I wasn’t fun or worth being around, and I sank to the lowest, most insecure and unrecognizable version of myself. It was so sad and I felt such an immense betrayal of my love and trust that I was just totally lost. I wrote this song as a means of self-soothing, learning how to uplift and bring joy to myself, by myself.”
Despite its melancholy narrative, Lulu manages to make even the saddest of stories beautiful, as her glossy falsetto vocals glide over twinkling synths and introspective melodies. With an overall theme of self-reflection, the thought-provoking track will have you singing along as she chants, “I keep my wits about it, and cards close to the vest, yes I repeat it til it’s true, being alone is the best.”
