In one of the first early signs of hopefully the kind of great music year we're going to have in 2022, today we've got a brand new record from Mitski.

Her new album Laurel Hell arrived Friday, out via Dead Oceans. It's a wonderful record, and it comes as she is perhaps reluctantly at the top of the mountain in terms of a career—one she seems to have tried leaving behind. A few years ago, she planned to walk away from the industry, but she was contracted with her label for an additional album, one she is supporting with a massive, practically sold-out tour, on top of dates opening for Harry Styles.

It's unclear what will come next for the singer, but this album includes some big, sometimes even pop-friendlier sounds, something some fans may appreciate while hoping it means there's still more music to be had in the future.
