British outfit The Kooks are back with new music—and more on the way.

Today, they have confirmed their upcoming album 10 Tracks to Echo in the Dark, which is coming July 22 via Lonely Cat/AWAL. But they're not making fans wait too long for some of it, as the first three songs are out now, an EP dubbed Connection - Echo in the Dark Part 1.

They'll continue releasing the music in three parts, with today marking the first, a second three-track EP coming later, and the final four tracks as the third part.

According to frontman Luke Pritchard, he had intended to take some time off after a lengthy tour, but instead, he ended up back in the studio, which led to what would become the new record.

“I started going to Berlin for three or four days at a time," he recalls. "I was really affected by Brexit and I wanted to make a bit of a statement by creating a European record. We’re a European band, we practically lived out there and have so much love for Europe, so we wanted to keep that connection.”

Ultimately, he found a haven in Berlin. “A lot of songwriters have found refuge in Berlin”, he notes. “It’s a free place, it’s not so consumed by commerciality. I was looking for something a bit rawer, a little bit more minimal. Sometimes you just pick up these nuances somewhere. It’s not necessarily the people, it’s the place.”
