After releasing an array of singles and videos, Scottish singer-songwriter Bow Anderson has dropped her debut EP titled New Wave via Island Records. In six tracks, Anderson provides a rousing pop-oriented project that lyricizes themes of individual growth, personal maturity, and closure among other themes as it’s backed with a variation of sounds blended such as hip-hop, R&B, and 60’s influenced blue-eyed soul-based production.
Anderson’s New Wave EP strongly presents an uplifting tone relating to heartbreak as she sings about the hardships of love through soulful harmonies and relatable perspectives. The EP introduces listeners with the “New Wave” sharing the same title as the project. Regarding its inspiration, Anderson states, “New Wave is about letting go and moving onto bigger and better things,” she says. “It’s about learning to love yourself and knowing your worth. Sometimes you have to learn to let go of people who bring negativity to your life because it’s not worth your happiness suffering. I hope it uplifts people and makes them wanna dance!”.
Tracks such as “Island” embody the feeling of knowing your worth and deserving better than what an individual is going through. Similar themes are sung on “Heavy” as it details reminiscent emotions to what Anderson describes as, “one big night out. I was walking through Edinburgh very drunk, crying because I was struggling with a breakup. It was ‘Heavy’, a dark memory.” Overall, the EP prominently introduces Bow as one of music’s emerging artists to be on the lookout for.
