British singer/songwriter Waiting For Smith makes us think twice about our outlook on life in his cheerful new single “Long Life”. The gleefully bright song was written with the intent to reaffirm the ideology of what we count as the important things in life. We all have different beliefs on what means most to us, for some it’s being able to enjoy time with their family, others it’s seeing live music, or it could simply be going to the farmer’s market on Sundays to get fresh bread and coffee. All of these things we take for granted and it isn’t until they are stripped away, that we realise how important they are. “Long Life” talks about just that and it couldn’t come at a more poignant time.
Singer Harry Lloyd tenderly narrates an uplifting ode, with the single ambition of putting a smile on the listeners face. Folky guitars and luminous string arrangements paint a colourful picture, creating a positive world that we all want to be a part of. The new visuals further this idea, with the singer revealing how Wes Anderson played a big role in his inspiration, “I love his symmetry. He makes every shot look like a painting. You can’t help but take life a little less seriously after watching one of his movies. And that’s what I really wanted to get across with the music video, a sense of play.”
During such difficult times, Waiting For Smith is providing a much needed outlet of inspiration and optimism.
