After years writing hits for the likes of One Direction, Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber, U.K. songwriter powerhouse Jamie Scott is taking the spotlight himself and releasing his own new single "Friendly Fire."
The moving, very emotional new track veers away from the glossy pop world and instead finds Scott in more of The War on Drugs or Ryan Adams territory. It's a preview of an album he's been working on, titled How Still The River, which will be released on Sept. 18.
"'Friendly Fire' is a song about the inevitable break in a relationship that went wrong a long time ago," he says. "But which was played out because no one was strong enough to end it, and in the process, both hurt the only person they never wanted to. Sonically, 'Friendly Fire' was the first track produced for the record and set the tone."
