Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds took nest this past weekend at Milwaukee’s historic Pabst Theater for a sold-out show to an oft-raucous crowd.

Performing without an opening act, they played a fast-paced set that clocked in just shy of two hours. They’re touring in support of Chasing Yesterday, the followup to their 2011 eponymous debut album.

The show offered a fair split of material from both albums and brought together a solid group of musicians, complete with horn section, that kept the capacity crowd on their feet throughout the night. Opening with “Do the Damage”—a bonus track from the new LP—quickly drove home the notion that Gallagher was going to play what he wanted and the crowd would oblige. Tight musicianship and clean vocals made for a perfectly mixed sound in the small theater.

A handful of loud fans frequently chanted between songs, giving the Pabst the feeling of a soccer match. Noel mostly ignored the group and pushed forth with a set that’s been locked-in since the tour's opening night.

The highlight was a run of songs that included the dreamy “Riverman,” “The Death of You and Me” and a stripped-down take on Oasis’ “Champagne Supernova” at midset. A single video backdrop served as the lone visual complement during the show, mixing together live footage with visual effects that tied into the subtle, psychedelic aspect of the music.

While many fans sang along to the show, it was the aforementioned Oasis hit "Supernova" and the show-stopping “Don’t Look Back in Anger” that drew the greatest crowd participation, with the audience essentially drowning out Gallagher's own vocals.
