It's been a busy week for Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Following their acclaimed VMA performance with Mary Lambert and Jennifer Hudson, the duo is now celebrating having passed one million albums sold.
As of this week, their 2012 effort, The Heist, has sold 1,017,000 copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan data. They finished last week just 2,000 copies shy of the benchmark.
The achievement is especially noteworthy considering the album's independent release last October.
"Eleven months after we put out [The Heist] independently, the album is officially platinum. I NEVER thought that I'd be able to say that," the Seattle rapper said on Wednesday. "Thank you to all the people that have made this album what it is. You were our record label when we had none. You made the media pay attention to what we were doing. Straight up. I'm overwhelmed by what has transpired in this last year. Places I never thought our music would reach. I have #sharkfacegang to thank. Love to you all."
