SZA suddenly returned Friday with a surprise new track "Hit Different," a collaboration with Ty Dolla $ign.

The unexpected new released arrived right at midnight, accompanied by a video self-directed by SZA herself (it's her directorial debut). The Neptunes-produced song is out now via Top Dawg Entertainment/RCA Records.

The new music is SZA's first music of her own since her 2017 album Ctrl, which was Variance's Best Album that year. But it also comes as the singer has been not-so-subtly hinting at delays in releasing her new music, slamming her label last month on Twitter and describing the relationship as a "hostile" one.

In a tweet after releasing "Hit Different," SZA expressed gratitude to everyone involved in the song's creation and release, including her label. "Thank u for putting up w me," she said, along with the hashtag #TDE.
