Rising artist Zachary Knowles is kicking off what will likely be a great year in his career with his new single "ghost."
The breathtaking track arrived Friday with an accompanying video featuring the Texas-bred singer, who recently opened for Alec Benjamin. It's his first release on FADER Label, which is home to fellow Variance favorites such as Clairo, Matt and Kim, and Fractures.
"I wanted to write a song that illustrated what it was like for me when I battled anxiety and how I almost let it control my life," he says of the new track. "But rather than become complacent and just do what everybody else wanted me to do, I decided to put faith into my decisions."
For Knowles (no relation to Beyoncé, as far as we know), "ghost" is an irresistible offering, showcasing his honest lyricism, frothy vocals and a delivery which seems to flow effortlessly between pop, R&B and hip-hop spaces.
