After teasing new music last week, Selena Gomez returned early Wednesday morning with her new single "Lose You to Love Me."

The emotional new track, which she wrote with longtime collaborators Julia Michaels and Justin Tranter as well as Mattias Larsson and Robin Fredriksson with additional production from FINNEAS, arrived today with a video directed by Gomez's "Good for You" collaborator Sophie Muller on an iPhone 11 Pro.

"This song was inspired by many things that have happened in my life since releasing my last album," says Gomez. "I thought it was important to share the music, as I know many can relate to the fact that the road to self-discovery generally comes through the scars in one’s life. I want people to feel hope and to know you will come out the other side stronger and a better version of yourself."

While the track is clearly a very personal one, it's hard not to see it through the prism of Gomez's recent struggles, her health battles and her breakup with Justin Bieber, whom many fans are quickly alleging as the inspiration for the track, which is simultaneously gut-wrenching and breathtakingly triumphant, as Gomez lays bare her loss of a lover which led her to an important realization of self-love.

The new song follows Gomez's 2015 album Revival and is likely to precede another new record.
