Earlier this year, Jacob Banks released a powerful rendition of the song "Every Age," originally written and recorded by Argentinian-Swedish singer José González.

The stirring track was featured as part of Extra Gum's recent "Give Extra, Get Extra" campaign, with a video centered around a teenaged boy named Max, who befriends an elderly chess player named Bill in a local park. While they are from different generations and backgrounds, they bond and form a sense of unique friendship.

Today, Banks is giving Variance an exclusive glimpse at his recording sessions for the song as well as the Extra commercial, as he narrates the clip and explains the reason for his involvement. "Everyone wants to feel like they matter to someone," he says in the video. "If you talk to anybody long enough, you can find a common interest."

He says he is "humbled to help tell the story of Bill and Max," adding: "I hope everyone finds a little of themselves in both of them like I did."

Banks recently performed at Jay-Z's Made in America Festival and Eddie Vedder's Ohana Music Festival. He's on the road this month supporting Maggie Rogers on tour and next month he'll join City and Colour's trek.
