Los Angeles-via-Maryland musician Landon Fleischman (aka Boy Willows) is stepping out with a big new single which expands on his experimental bedroom pop sound.

His incredible new single "What The Hell Is That?" is premiering today on Variance, and it follows his six-track BANGS EP, which arrived last month on Nettwerk Records. It offers a dreamy preview of what's to come.

"'What The Hell Is That?' is all about standing out in a group whether you want to or not," Fleischman tells Variance of the new song. "I wanted to approach the production in a way that told a similar story. I took old audio messages off my phone of people I’ve grown apart from and used them as samples to create a nostalgic and disorienting atmosphere. I didn’t bother toeing the line with subtleties in the production—I wanted big, heavy drums and in-your-face guitars, as if those asking 'what the hell is that?' were referring to both me and the song. Overall, the production is meant to be odd and even confusing; it’s meant to emulate how you feel when people don’t understand you."

Boy Willows, who has also worked as a lighting designer for the likes of Wallows, Alan Walker and Mustard, will join fellow L.A.-based artist and TikTok star Petey for a string of shows later month and next month in Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle and Portland.
