Matthew Green

Kansas City native Matthew Green (aka Dance the Misery) is releasing new music this week.

The Nashville-based singer and musician's new single "Pickup" is out Friday, but it's premiering today on Variance. The magnetic new track is the latest preview of Green's debut Bad Feelings at Night EP, which is expected to arrive on Dec. 11.

"Some nights have the power to change you," explains Green. "I try to write music as a soundtrack for nights like that, as a way to remember a before and after. Maybe it's not the song on at the party, but it's the one on in your car, or the one on in your headphones while you lay in bed thinking about who you'll be next."

For Green, music was initially a means of coping with obsessive-compulsive disorder. He's an art director by trade, and he writes, records and produces his own material, although "Pickup" was mastered by Greg Calbi, whose recent work includes albums from The War on Drugs and Kacey Musgraves.
