Ringo Starr has canceled his upcoming show in North Carolina as an act of protest against the state's recent HB2 law, the controversial "bathroom bill."
Citing agreement with Bruce Springsteen, who canceled his own show last week, the former Beatle said in a statement released Wednesday he "stands with those fighting against the bigotry" of the law.
"This law opens the door to discrimination everywhere by limiting anti-discrimination laws against people based on their sexual orientation or gender identity," Starr said, pointing to the Beatles' lyrics: "All you need is love."
Starr's show had been scheduled for June 18 at the Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary, North Carolina.
