Singer-songwriter Martin Johnson (aka The Night Game) is heading into the holiday weekend with a new song about big dreams.

The former Boys Like Girls frontman on Friday released his glimmering new single "American Nights," the latest preview of his self-titled debut album, which he confirmed today will be out on Sept. 7 via Vertigo/Interscope Records.

The 11-track record was produced by Grammy winner François Tétaz, with a handful of interesting collaborators, including Gotye (!?), Chairlift ’s Caroline Polachek and Kirin J Callinan. It's available now for pre-order.

As for the song itself, it's a relatively somber cut, a bit country-tinged and an ode to blue collar America, telling the "stories of small town folks with big dreams and late nights," according to a press note. It's accompanied by a live performance video.
