As a perfect start to February, Future Islands has returned, with new single "Ran" released Tuesday night just before midnight.

It's the first single from the Samuel T. Herring-led outfit's upcoming album The Far Field, the followup to 2014's Singles, which will arrive April 7 on 4AD.

The band spent the past year working on the record, alongside producer John Congleton (Sleater-Kinney, St. Vincent) in Los Angeles' Sunset Sound, the same studio previously utilized by the likes of the Beach Boys and Prince.

The album is described as being reflective of elements the group has been exploring for much of the past decade: "that there is power in emotional vulnerability, that one can find a way to laugh and cry in the same breath — and be stronger for it.”

Listen to "Ran" below, followed by Future Islands' newly announced tour dates.
