Bruce Springsteen has canceled his show in Greensboro in protest of North Carolina's deeply controversial HB2, the so-called "bathroom bill," which restricts transgender people from using restrooms for the gender with which they identify.

"It’s an attempt by people who cannot stand the progress our country has made in recognizing the human rights of all of our citizens to overturn that progress," Springsteen said in a statement released Friday afternoon, adding that he feels "this is a time for me and the band to show solidarity" with the "freedom fighters" standing against the bill.

"Some things are more important than a rock show and this fight against prejudice and bigotry — which is happening as I write — is one of them," Springsteen went on to say. "It is the strongest means I have for raising my voice in opposition to those who continue to push us backwards instead of forwards."

His show in Greensboro had been scheduled for this Sunday (April 10). All tickets will be refunded at the point of purchase.
