In 1997, a group of Boston rockers formed what became known as ISIS, the band.

Unfortunately, as of 2014, ISIS is also the name of one of the most hated Islamic terrorist groups in the globe. Following the militant organization reported execution of American journalist James Foley, ISIS is now one of the Western world's biggest enemies.

Despite ISIS the band's split back in 2010, a number of clearly uninformed people have mistaken the rock outfit for the terrorist group, sending hateful messages and threats via their online outlets, which remain active solely to update fans on their individual projects.

“It blows my mind that people can't see the difference,” the rep told ABC News.

Their Facebook page—which has been changed from "ISIS" to "Isis the Band"—shows a 25% spike in activity, with hundreds of new likes just in the past week.

A rep for the band's label Ipecac added: “It is an unfortunate situation and of course a few less than enlightened people are not seeing the distinction between an inactive band of musicians and a band of terrorists involved in current world affairs."
