As YouTube continues taking music seriously, it appears the online video is preparing to jump into the on-demand music business.

Billboard is reporting that the Google-owned company has a music streaming service (à la Spotify) in the works, according to sources with knowledge of the plans. The service, which would tentatively include a free version and a premium unlimited product, could launch by the end of the year.

YouTube declined to comment, but as Billboard points out, parent company Google has previously secured licenses with the major labels, which would make a streaming service an easy possibility. Another perk: many music lovers already use YouTube as a makeshift streaming service via uploaded videos.

The news also comes as Beats Electronics (aka Beats by Dre) has apparently delayed the launch of its own music streaming service.
