In a bit of irony, the final movie ever rented from Blockbuster was the comedy This Is the End.

Nov. 9 was the final day to rent movies from the chain, which is closing the last of its 300 stores. The last transaction took place at 11 p.m. at a location in Hawaii.

Blockbuster confirmed the final checkout on Monday via Twitter. The company will begin liquidating its stores this week.

Co-star Seth Rogen responded to the news, saying: "The last movie ever rented from a blockbuster was this is the end. In high school I would go hang out at blockbuster every day."

The film, which released in theaters over the summer, stars Rogen, James Franco, Jonah Hill, Jay Baruchel, Danny McBride and Craig Robinson.
