Following a slew of claims that Lorde had "dissed" Drake and Nicki Minaj, among others, the young singer took to Twitter on Tuesday night to clarify.

Speaking about the music that she connects with, the New Zealand songstress recently told Interview Magazine that last year she began listening to Drake, Nicki Minaj and Lana Del Rey, but she said she's unable to relate to their music. "They all sing about such opulence, stuff that just didn't relate to me—or anyone that I knew. I began thinking, 'How are we listening to this? It's completely irrelevant.' I basically just wrote what we were all thinking."

Considering that Lorde is only 17 (technically, 16 at the time referenced), it's hardly a surprise that not all teens can relate to a lot of hip-hop and pop songs, with lyrics about lavish lifestyles, wild sex, gobs of cash—stuff that is mostly out of reach for much of the non-adult population.

Nevertheless, outlets like All Hip Hop, Huffington Post and Complex Magazine ran with the quote, prompting Lorde to say on Twitter that she has "nothing but love and admiration for both nicki and drake (have said this x1000)." She continued: "Just because their songs aren't my reality (being 17 and from auckland) doesn't mean i don't admire their musicianship and careers."

Back in September, Lorde discussed the modern music she loves. In addition to James Blake, she pointed to Minaj: "She is so fucking good, man, I can't even fathom it. I watched this amazing video the other day, of her just riffing about sex. She was putting on makeup and talking, and she's a total feminist, and I was like, 'Man, you are a badass, Nicki.' I love it."
