HBO revealed Monday afternoon that production on the eight-episode second season of True Detective has finally begun in California.

Additionally, the network also confirmed previously reported casting news, announcing Rachel McAdams, Taylor Kitsch and Kelly Reilly as the final major players on board.

The trio joins previously announced stars Colin Farrell and Vince Vaughn.

According to the network, McAdams plays Ani Bezzerides, a "detective whose uncompromising ethics put her at odds with others and the system she serves."

Meanwhile, Kitsch will portray Paul Woodrugh, a "war veteran and motorcycle officer for the California Highway Patrol, running from a difficult past and the sudden glare of a scandal that never happened."

Reilly will play Frank Semyon’s (Vaughn) wife, a "former D-list actress who is a full partner in his enterprises and ambitions."

As we previously reported, Farrell stars as a detective torn between a corrupt police department and the mob, with Vaughn leading as a "criminal and entrepreneur" whose business partner has been murdered.

A premiere date for True Detective's second season has yet to be revealed.
