A jury has found that Robin Thicke and Pharrell Williams copied Marvin Gaye's 1977 hit “Got to Give Up" when writing the 2013 smash "Blurred Lines," and the duo has been ordered to pay Gaye's family $7.3 million for copyright infringement.

Both Thicke and Williams have previously denied stealing Gaye's music while creating their own hit, although the latter admitted when listening to the bass lines of each track in court that "it sounds like you’re playing the same thing.”

According to records disclosed in court during last week's trial, "Blurred Lines" has earned more than $16.5 million since its release.

Update: Williams, Thicke and fellow "Blurred Lines" collaborator T.I. have issued the statement below.

"While we respect the judicial process, we are extremely disappointed in the ruling made today, which sets a horrible precedent for music and creativity going forward. Blurred Lines was created from the heart and minds of Pharrell, Robin and T.I. and not taken from anyone or anywhere else. We are reviewing the decision, considering our options and you will hear more from us soon about this matter."
